Growing up I was told, as most of us were, that in order to get anywhere in life, you had to work hard. There was no “magical fairy” that was going to give you your heart’s desire, you had to take control of your life and make things happen. In my journey of personal growth, I have learned that only some of that is true.
You see, when we’re in our mother’s womb, somehow we’re just taken care of. We don’t sit in there thinking, “Oh boy, I really hope my nose shows up.” Somehow, without our interference, it just happens. All of our organs, our fingers, and toes, right down to the color of our eyes and unique personality. It’s all just taken care of. Yet, the moment we’re born our human instinct kicks in as if to say, “Alright God, thanks but we’ll take it from here.”
Most of my life I believed that good things happened to certain people. Some people were just lucky to be born into wealthy families and their children would become successful and so on. Another misconception that in recent years I have been able to debunk.
In the early stages of my soul searching, my fiance handed me a book called The Secret.
While I was reading this book it was as if the heavens opened and Jesus himself was standing there with a huge grin saying “Congratulations, you made it. Now the fun can begin.”
Prior to reading this book, I had deep-rooted beliefs that all the pressures of my human existence were on my shoulders. As if life would cease to move forward unless I had complete control. When I opened this book I felt like I unlocked “the secret” and I was propelled into a parallel universe. I felt lighter somehow. The pressure in my chest loosed, I stood up taller because the weight on my shoulders had lifted. Prior to this revelation, in my mind, the universe was made up of humans, animals, bugs, dirt, trees, stars, planets, water and the space in between. I may very well never understand the magnitude of its unification but the more I open my mind, the more I learn and the more I feel at home, not only in my body but with my place in the universe.
The book, The Secret discusses the Law of Attraction, only one of many universal laws. The basic premise of this law is that like energy attracts like energy. This is not new-age hippy-dippy talk. These teachings date back centuries and can be found in several religious teachings.
On the other hand, if you don’t consider yourself a “religious” person and you prefer the science, let’s go there.
As humans, unless we can feel or touch something with our own hands, we have a hard time believing its validity. At the beginning of the 19th century, scientists began exploring the relationship between energy and the structure of matter. In doing so, they recognized that everything in the universe is made up of energy.
“Quantum physicists discovered that physical atoms are made up of vortices of energy that are constantly spinning and vibrating. Each one radiating its own unique energy signature. Therefore, we are really beings of energy and vibration, radiating our own unique energy signature.” You can read more about that here.
Now, when we are in our mother’s womb we have no choice. We can’t really intervene in the process, thank goodness. The universe is doing its job. But as soon as we are born, our conscious mind begins to speak to us, controlling our mind and controlling our lives.
For example, your conscious mind says it wants to write a book, but your subconscious mind says, ” Why would anyone read it? Who are you to write a book?” Unless your values (conscious mind and subconscious mind) are in line with one another, the universe gets mixed signals. The law of attraction is constantly working. So, if you are putting out negative vibrations, the universe has no choice but to give back negative vibrations.
For example, say you woke up this morning and right out of bed you stubbed your toe. Then, you slipped and fell in the bathroom and on the way to work you spilled coffee on yourself. It’s as if nothing could go right all day and the only thing that would make it better would be to go back to bed and start your day over. Stay with me here…..when you got out of bed and stubbed your toe, you immediately set off a negative vibration. Instead of acknowledging it and taking a moment to change your frequency, the universe matched the energy that you continued to emit and so began the negative spiral of one thing after another. The universe is not working against you. Unlike you, the universe has no choice. Remember, like energy attracts like energy. So, if you put out love and compassion, you will receive more love and compassion.
What you think, you become.
What you feel, you attract.
What you imagine, you create.
What this means is that you can manifest anything you want in life, as well as some things you don’t. More on this in a later post.
The key to unlocking the law of attraction is through the subconscious mind. If you say, “I want a new job” but you don’t actually believe you are worthy of a new job, the universe will listen to your authentic voice and give you what you asked for, the same ole j.o.b. But, if you tell yourself you want a new job and you visualize getting the job and FEELING the emotions of getting the call that you’ve been hired or FEELING what it would be like walking in on your first day, the universe has no choice but to work in your favor. You may not get exactly what you want at the exact moment you want it but there are no mistakes. The universe has a way of unfolding at just the right moments.
This topic is so vast that I have barely skimmed the surface. But if you’re like I was, a believer in the physical world. Then this is a great beginning step.
This week I challenge you to pay attention to your feelings. For what you feel you emit. It’s great to check in with yourself multiple times throughout the day. It only takes a minute to change your frequency but your frequency can change your entire life.
The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be.
